Nanoscribe opens Shanghai Quantum X demolab

Nanoscribe, the market leader in high-precision additive manufacturing and a trusted provider of advanced microfabrication solutions for research and industrial production, has officially inaugurated its Shanghai Quantum X demolab. The event on December 26, 2025 marked the official commissioning of the Quantum X align system, making the company’s next-generation Aligned Two-Photon Lithography technology available for hands-on experience in China. The event brought together leading industry and academic experts, highlighting Nanoscribe’s growing presence and long-term commitment to the Chinese market.

Nanoscribe reaches 400 systems sold

In its 18th year of operation, Nanoscribe has reached a major milestone with the sale of its 400th system and expects strong financial results for the current year. At the same time, the company is seeing a marked increase in industrial demand for its next-generation Quantum X systems, particularly in optics manufacturing and photonics packaging. This development underscores Nanoscribe’s evolution from a pioneer in academic research to a trusted provider of high-precision microfabrication solutions for leading research facilities and industrial production environments. This is reinforced by its turnkey process-line offering and its positioning within the Lab14 Group.

Nanoscribe offers new highly transparent photoresin IPX-Clear

Nanoscribe launches IPX-Clear, a photoresin tailored for high-precision micro-optics. Optimized for 3D printing by 2GL® technology and compatible with classical Two-Photon Polymerization, this material achieves remarkable transparency across the entire visible spectrum. Nanoscribe's Microfabrication Experience Center — The Microfabrication Experience Center is located at Nanoscribe’s headquarters and offers spacious laboratory, exhibition, and conference rooms for product demonstrations, feasibility testing and training as well as workshops covering the entire microfabrication spectrum.

Nanoscribe's maskless lithography system Quantum X — The world’s first Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL ®) system offers additive microfabrication for 2D and 2.5D microstructures. The maskless lithography system combines the extraordinary performance of grayscale lithography with the precision and flexibility of Nanoscribe’s pioneering Two-Photon Polymerization technology. Nanoscribe Quantum X offers submicrometer resolution, ultrafast control over voxel size, automated processes and the precision needed for ultra-smooth topographies with high shape accuracy.

Nanoscribe's Photonic Professional GT2 — Nanoscribe’s Photonic Professional GT2 is the world’s highest resolution 3D printer. The system’s underlying Two-Photon Polymerization is a pioneering technology for extremely precise additive manufacturing of nano-, micro- and mesosized structures and objects. The Nanoscribe ecosystem combines flexibility in 3D design with straightforward processes and workflows, as well as a wide range of printing materials and substrates. More than 3,000 system users benefit from rapid prototyping and manufacturing processes in research laboratories, multi-user facilities and production sites in academia and industry.

The Demolab is the heart of the Microfabrication Experience Center at Nanoscribe's headquarters — The Demolab is the heart of the Microfabrication Experience Center at Nanoscribe’s headquarter. The laboratory with yellow light conditions is equipped with all Nanoscribe printer lines. During product demonstration or (online) training sessions, visitors can get first-hand impressions of Photonic Professional GT2 and Quantum X. To demonstrate and practice the entire printing workflows, the laboratory also offers further production and characterization equipment.

The ZEISS Innovation Hub @KIT is the headquarters of Nanoscribe, under one roof with innovation teams of ZEISS, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and high-tech start-ups. The hub offers an inspiring place for Nanoscribe, with modern facilities and more than 4,200 m² space to shape the future of microfabrication technologies and solutions.

Applications in scientific microfabrication

Miniature optical endoscope — This image shows the visualization of a 3D-printed miniature optical endoscope inside a blood vessel. To fabricate the novel microoptical tool with a width of merely 125 micrometers, the researchers used a Nanoscribe Photonic Professional 3D printer system. The additive manufactured device enables endoscopic examinations within blood vessels of less than half a millimeter diameter to detect plaques, thrombi and cholesterol crystals. © Florian Sterl, Sterltech Optics

Photonic particle-accelerator — The photonic particle-accelerator in this image consists of an air waveguide inside a silicon 3D photonic crystal. This application provides impressive evidence of the complex design capabilities and enormously small feature sizes realized with Nanoscribe’s 3D Microfabrication systems. © Wegener Group, KIT

Vascular model — Two-Photon Polymerization is a versatile microfabrication technology. Thus, it becomes possible to realize different variants of complex vascular models and across multiple scales. These vascular models are thought to mimic in vitro environments and phenomena. The one shown here is a simple vascular model with dyed water.

Wafer with array of micromechanical structures — This image shows an array of micromechanical structures providing evidence for rapid and high-precision small series production of mechanical components on wafers up to 6’’. With Nanoscribe Quantum X shape it is possible to print 200 typical structures overnight.

Cell culturing or cell seeding is the most common technique to combine Two-Photon Polymerization (2PP) microfabrication of the Quantum X bio with cell research. This image shows a 3D-printed microwell arrays for cell culturing. The fluorescent NIH 3T3 cells are attached to the biocompatible scaffold made of the photoresin Nanoscribe IP-S whereby they proliferate.

Microneedles — The 3D-printed microneedles in this image demonstrate the capabilities of Nanoscribe’s 3D Microfabrication technology to realize applications with high aspect ratios, shape accuracy and sharp tips. The design variations also represent many possible biomedical applications such as microfluidic devices, drug delivery vectors, microrobots and biosensors.

Applications in mastering and industrial processes

Lensed fiber array (LFA) — This microscope image shows a 3D-printed lensed fiber array (LFA). The microscope image clearly demonstrates how precise the optical projection of lensed fibers is. Here, green light is collimated into parallel light beams. Sample of the research project MiLiQuant.

Nanoscribe's Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL ®) meets new trends in optical design engineering by redefining the design scope of refractive and diffractive microoptics. Quantum X, the world’s first Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography system, advances the maskless microfabrication of extremely flat optics, like Fresnel lenses for focused illumination like the one shown in this image.

Single lenses with spherical, aspherical and freeform shapes — Nanoscribe’s Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL ®) is used for the fabrication of all kind of topographies, with ultra-smooth surfaces, redefining the microfabrication of freeform microoptics, microlens arrays and multi-level diffractive optical elements. The image shows single lenses with spherical, aspherical and freeform shapes.

Cutting-edge microfabrication technologies

one-photon absorption vs. two-photon absorption — This infographic shows the polymerization profile (blue) of one-photon (left) versus two-photon absorption (right). One-photon absorption leads to the polymerization of the photoresin throughout the full exposed volume (left), exponentially decaying in depth (Beer’s law). Whereas two-photon absorption only occurs in the much smaller voxel at the focal volume (right). The absorption triggering Two-Photon Polymerization is proportional to the square of the local intensity. Only in this volume the intensity is high enough for simultaneous absorption of two photons.

2PP hardware setup — This infographic schematically illustrates the Two-Photon Polymerization (2PP) hardware setup. Rotating galvo mirrors steer the laser focus across the focal xy-plane. The enlarged sketch shows how Two-Photon Polymerization is used in Nanoscribe’s Dip-in Laser Lithography (DiLL) by dipping an objective lens directly into the liquid photoresin for an aberration-constant printing, enabling precise microfabrication even on opaque substrates.

Two-Photon Polymerization compared to Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography — This infographic compares Two-Photon Polymerization (2PP) with Two-Photon Grayscale Lithography (2GL ®). Printing a microlens with 2PP requires splitting the design into several layers to create the shape of the lens. With 2GL, an accurate lens contour can be realized by modulating the voxel size in one plane, resulting in a more precise contour with significantly fewer layers than with 2PP.
